Health classes explained
How the four tiers work and what shifts your place among them.
Carriers sort by rate class. Names shift company to company, but the rungs stay the same: Preferred Plus (Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus, then Standard and surcharges for higher risk. Smokers climb a parallel ladder at higher costs.
What underwriters look at
Build, blood work numbers, whether heart disease or cancer struck relatives before sixty, driving history, drugs you take, job and hobbies, and any nicotine. Top class wants nearly spotless; Preferred has room; Standard Plus and Standard accept managed issues like blood pressure on medication.
How to use the quote tool
Rate yourself truthfully: Excellent aims for Preferred Plus, Very good for Preferred, Good for Standard Plus, Average for Standard. Quotes match your choice; the carrier locks it after underwriting. Torn? Quote both tiers and see, then trust the application. A better guess does not shrink the bill—just the accuracy.
Susman Insurance Agency can steer you to carriers with clearer paths for your health, which often trumps the advertised price.
